Much less known than Bali but with comparable beauty, is the next island eastwards on the map of the Archipelago - Lombok.
We do already have our first Indonesian partner company there (world class touristic complex) with a ongoing internship of Polina from Russia being a mutual success and hopefully will be able to offer you a greater variety of opportunities on the island soon.
How about Lombok itself? Well, if you havent heard about it much (apart from the Gilis probably, three small paradise islands located on the north-west coast), here is some highlights to make you inquire more about this part of Indonesia during your application process :)
Lombok is an island in the West Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia and the native inhabitants are the Sasak people. It is part of the chain of the Lesser Sunda Islands, with the Lombok Strait separating it from Bali to the west and the Alas Strait between it and Sumbawa to the east. The capital city called Mataram, the airport is Seleparang while the seafort call Lembar.
A common misunderstanding is that the name of the island Lombok is derived from the Bahasa Indonesian meaning of lombok which is chilli while in the Indigenous language of the Sasak people of Lombok the word lombok (luum-book) which literally translates into Bahasa Indonesian as as lurus (straight ahead - very often heard at the local parking areas).
Lombok can offers both beautiful nature and exotic cultural interests for visitors. The while sandy beach of Senggigi and Kute and the panoramic view of three island called Gili are the best available marine resourced can be experience. Since most of the west side of Lombok is occupied by Balinese Hindus, you can find easily many Balinese temples on Balinese comnity, on the coastalside and also the mountains.
And since the majority of people are Moslem, in most of the village corners you can find Mosques which is Lombok island is also known as "The island with thousand Mosque".
What to include in your sightseeing plans during your internship in Lombok:
Senggigi : the beach area on southwest coast - beautiful, white, sandy and not as popular as Bali's Dreamland;
